In mediaeval times turret brooches were very popular, judging by how many are found by detectorists. This one has been made into a ring: the 6 empty spaces, perhaps once held semiprecious stones and are now filled with 23 carat gold Roman melon beads held in place by faceted diamond beads. The ring shank is 18 carat gold.
