I have made a number of versions of these earrings, each unique, using different combinations of gemstones. The title for this one reflects the use of tear shaped grandidierites at the top. The original idea for the earrings came from two sources, first from the wonderful Cheapside Hoard exhibition at the Museum of London where the 17th century pre-Civil War jewellery shone with different coloured stones. Then I also had in mind the Empress Theodora in the mosaics at Ravenna.
Shown in the last of the images is a pair that is now in the collection of the Museum of London, and in this case, called Cheapside Earrings.
