I am always drawn to a shield shape and this beautiful diamond has a pinkish hue to it. Behind the stone we have put gold leaf – the technique of using coloured foil behind paste stones is an old one making the glass stones look more interesting, red for ruby, blue for a sapphire. But when real gold leaf is used behind real stones the effect is remarkable and quite mysterious. Along the top edge we have crowned it with short “unicorns”and the other two sides are lined with very tiny antique seed pearls. They were often used, in the 19th century, as a long necklace for a baby's christening.
