Icy Pond is a brooch made from three late Medieval metal detecting finds: the remains of two round brooches and a rectangular mount, possibly from a belt or a bridle. The round piece on the left should be thought of as the frostbitten remains of autumn and the one on the right has the suggestion of frozen dew represented by sparkling diamond beads. In the centre is the pond, a diamond slice backed with gold leaf and surrounded by the winter remains of pond weeds represented in horsehair.
