I have carefully chosen individual Basra pearls; two of them are secured with diamonds but the third has a natural bump. The torpedoes are gilded in 24 carat gold using the Korean method of Kuem Boo; they are detachable so that the necklace has three ways it can be worn. We have used a double chain to ensure that the necklace lies flat in all three variations. For me the double chain evokes the 19th century jewellery of Castellani, who used this method.
